Research Experience:
Development of anti-viral vaccines and diagnostics using recombinant DNA technology
Assessment of immune response induced during viral infection
Evaluation of immunogenicity of vaccine candidates in laboratory animals (mice, monkeys)

Major Achievements:

  • Developed candidate vaccines & diagnostic assays based on complete and truncated ORF2 gene and/or protein for hepatitis E.
  • Evaluation of immunogenicity of anti-HEV vaccines in mice and monkeys.
  • Development of combined vaccines for hepatitis E and B and evaluation of their immunogenicity in monkeys.
  • Assessment of IgG subclass response during different phases of HEV infection.

Research Interests:

  • Development of anti-viral vaccines, anti-virals & diagnostics
  • Identification of biomarkers characteristic to different phases of viral infections causing hepatitis 
  • Characterization of hepatitis E virus specific antigen-antibody in vitro interactions using biosensor technology
  • A comparative study of immune response generated during hepatitis A & E infections
  • Identification of uncharacterized aetiologies of infectious diseases
  • Host-virus interactions and biology of virus replication
  • Pathogenesis/ immune-pathogenesis of viral infections
Awards:
Awarded ICMR International Fellowship for Young Biomedical Scientists (2013-14) to study siRNA/miRNA as anti-viral targets at Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland, USA for 6 months.
