In Delhi all the Anganwadi's are under the Jurisdiction of Directorate of Social Welfare, Kasturba Gandhi Marg. The officer incharge was contacted and official permission to carry out the research work was taken. Thereafter the Mehrauli CDPO was contacted who in turn introduced the research workers to the supervisors who looked after the Anganwadis. These supervisors regularly visited the Anganwadi's assigned to them in order to monitor the on-going programme. Each supervisor looks after 10 Anganwadis and each Anganwadi covered a population of 1000 approximately. It was the Anganwadi workers and the helper who helped us with the research.

The supervisor along with the Anganwadi workers visits the field once a week for each Anganwadi. 5 Anganwadis were selected with which the research team actively worked. It was easy to work with Anganwadi workers in the field because they have a very close rapport with the target population.

When the research team visited the field there was another W.H.O. Scheme for a new vaccination going on. This was a family planning programme and each woman who got vaccinated was getting Rs.100. Our team was introduced in the field by the supervisor and the Anganwadi workers. The importance of the intervention and its use was also listed by the supervisor. Gaining acceptance without giving any material benefit was difficult majority of the women who were being dealt with, were illiterate, superstitious, ritualistic and not very cooperative. Though they were friendly with the Anganwadi workers they did not easily accept the research team worker. Initially the research team worker and supervisor, requested to have regular weekly meeting with the target women for some time so that the purpose of intervention was explained. Once the women come to know that the team was from Safdarjung Hospital they started to cooperate because they felt that the research team could help them in a number of ways.

Training of the Anganwadi workers

The intervention phase was divided into 3 distinct phases. The Anganwadi workers who had a very good rapport with the community members had to be taught to use various questionnaires used.
The phases were:
a) Pre-intervention phase
b) 6 monthly post intervention phase
c) 1 yearly post intervention evaluation
