ICMR-WHO
survey of Institutional Ethics Committees was done to examine the
functioning of ethics committees. This was done to develop training
programs and capacity building through corrective measures based on
the lacunae that would become apparent following analysis of the
survey.
Training
of the trainers was conducted to monitor ethics committees which were selected on the
basis of the above survey (with a view to increase understanding) of
the existing status of ethics committee functioning.
ICMR’s
Central
Ethics Committee on Human Research (CECHR) examines proposals of
national relevance or national significance and also ethical
issues which are brought to its notice by the Institutional
Ethics Committees or Govt. departments. It also reviews proposals
referred to it by the Health Ministries of Central Government and
State Governments and other national government and private agencies
which may have a national impact. All work related to CECHR is
managed by the Bioethics cell.
